How do I buy a burial plot?
Contact the cemetery owner — usually the local council, a church or a private company — or ask your funeral director. You normally buy an “exclusive right of burial” for a fixed period (often 25 to 100 years) rather than the land itself.
How much does a burial plot cost in the UK?
Prices vary hugely by location. Plots in rural areas can cost under £1,000, while in parts of London they can cost many thousands of pounds. Interment (digging) fees are charged on top, and non-residents often pay more.
Can I be buried in a churchyard?
If you live in a Church of England parish and the churchyard is still open for burials, you may have a right to be buried there. Many churchyards are closed or full, so ask the vicar or parish office.
Are there Muslim or Jewish sections in UK cemeteries?
Yes. Many council cemeteries have dedicated Muslim sections laid out facing Makkah, and Jewish communities have their own burial grounds run by synagogues or burial societies.
